Visit to the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust reserve on the east bank of the Severn. Main focus on wintering birds, but also on management of floodplain wetlands. Wintering waterbirds have been strongly affected by the recent heavy flooding, so it will be interesting to see whether they have returned to the site; scope of visit will depend on the extent of flooding on the floodplain; if flooding is low walk through meadows will be possible; if high, observations should be possible from the hide. Meet at 10.00 am in the carpark alongside the hide overlooking the reserve on the Ham Road from Ashleworth to Tirley at grid reference SO 827265; until 1 pm. Stout footwear advisable. Leader Mike Smart, phone 07816.140513. For further background information on the site see the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust website. Recent bird records from Ashleworth Ham available on the Gloster Birder website.
