Coombe Hill, Wotton-under-Edge
A joint meeting with the Bristol Naturalists’ Society at the Old London Road GWT reserve for limestone woundwort Stachys alpina. After a short visit to pay homage to the plant, we should see masses of rough hawk’s-beard Crepis biennis, on the way to the stunning oolitic grassland slopes of Coombe Hill. It is something of a locus classicus for chalk eyebright Euphrasia pseudokerneri, but in 2019 instead I collected what turned out to be its rare hybrid with Arctic eyebright E. arctica, previously known only in Somerset.
Roadside parking on the Old London Road by the GWT reserve ST755942.
