Leader: Andrew Bluett 07584 689090 – Alney Island is surrounded by the twin branches of the
River Severn. We will follow footpaths to the route of the old railway line and look at as much
of the site as possible. Depending upon conditions, we will either retrace our steps or follow the
road back to the car park. The area is largely unimproved grassland with some wet pools and
flashes, a rhyne and a large area of scrubby marshland which holds flocks of a variety of ducks if
water levels are good. Stout waterproof boots and warm, dry clothing are advised. Binoculars
are always useful. Bring a snack and drink if you wish.
