This tiny and secluded nature reserve belongs to the Avon Wildlife Trust. Once a railway siding it was acquired by the Trust in1988 and has been managed through careful grazing since, producing a notably rich site, particularly for flowering plants and butterflies. The Volunteer Warden, who has looked after the reserve for many years, and other members of the Avon Wildlife Trust, will show us around. There are only a few parking places at the site – it may be necessary to park on the roadside where this is possible. Access is from an unnamed road, passing under the railway bridge, off Swinhay Lane, one mile north of Charfield. Meet at the reserve entrance, ST 7163 9383, GL13 8EX.
