Rough Bank ( Butterflies and Orchids) with Graeme Davis.

It is not a huge reserve but it takes maybe 10 mins to walk from the main car park to the reserve, and of course the warmer it is the better…so starting just before lunch, having a lunch break and then heading back is the plan. So, bring a packed lunch, hand lenses and sweep nets maybe be advantageous for some but certainly not necessary. It is very hilly and so good walking shoes/boots are recommended. As for what to expect. The favourite to see are of course Adonis Blue at that time of year and Dingy Skippers. There will be plenty of the grassland butterflies. If I can, weather dependant I can bring a few pheromone lures for clearwing moths along, hoping for Six-belted clearwing and maybe Yellow-legged/ Orange tailed depending on how the day goes. Hopefully there may be some of the orchids up in flower like lesser butterfly orchids. There are 12 species of orchid recorded from site.

Location: Grif ref: SO 914 087, the main car park is 0.5km South of The Camp Village. Car park can be a bit hidden from the main road being
set back in the hedge just to make you aware. What3Words: dislodge.football.cracker
