White Clawed Crayfish July 8th . Field visit walk & talk around Cranham area, lead by John Field. An opportunity to see white-clawed crayfish in-situ. The plan is to give people an overview of the white-clawed crayfish conservation efforts that GWT has undertaken of late, whilst taking a look at the crayfish refugia features and natural flood management structures that we’ve installed in the Painswick Stream at Cranham Scout Centre and Buckholt Woods. I will have deployed artificial refuge traps up there by the date of the walk & talk, so there should be an opportunity for attendees to see white-clawed crayfish up close as well.
Meeting point: Buckholt Woods carpark at diplomas.compose.natively, SO 89353 13090. Please carshare if at all possible.
Meeting Time: 18.00
Finish Time: 20.30
What to wear: We will be standing in, or at least next to, the water’s edge when viewing structures and specimens. Please ensure that footwear (ideally wellies) are clean and dry. White-clawed crayfish are very vulnerable to Crayfish Plague (a water mould). We will be observing strict biosecurity throughout and will have disinfection and clean down facilities. However, please ensure that all traces of mud have been washed off your boots and that they’ve been disinfected and allowed to dry fully in the first place. Remember: Check, Clean, Dry.
Limit of 12 members to this meeting please, contact Alan Waterman to book your visit. ( alan.waterman1@btopenworld.com)
